My First Time at a Sex Store

You could say sex was pretty vanilla until today when we visited a sex shop in our local area. Missionary, doggie and the occasional spontaneous blowie was all that we had rolled up our sleeves, so it was only natural to try and expand our sexual horizons.

Sex shops are kind of a mystery here in the Valley, especially if you’re not really willing to explore or “accidentally” walk into a smoke shop, so we thought the best place to go and explore our sexual desires was Adam & Eve.

Adam & Eve prides itself on being an open sex space and allowing its customers to be 100% comfortable once they’ve walked in through those doors.

So what’s the real deal?

I walked in totally alone trying to understand what the whole sex shop deal was and TBH it looked like any retail shop. There were clothes hanging on the clothes rack, shelves filled with products and very knowledgeable sales associates.

I was a little intimated because, in our area, sex is a total taboo topic but I also wasn’t too intimidated because I was greeted immediately and I instantly remembered that the other customers in there were looking for the same thing: a way to better their lives the way they like.

but what should you know before going to a sex shop?

  • NO BOUNDARIES: Of course the clerks aren’t going to be all up in your business but no question is stupid or too intimate. At this point, I’m sure they’ve heard it all so your questions about butt plugs and a G string rash is not new to them.
  • KEEP AN OPEN MIND: Something I took away from talking to the sales associate was that young adults that come in are immature and giggle at products, when in reality that shouldn’t be an issue. Sex is natural and everyone enjoys it differently so what gets me off might be different to what gets you off. Respect the Sex.
  • BE HONEST: Sex is meant to be all about you and your partner, so be honest with yourself when you walk into an adult novelty store. If you’re into BDSM then talk about it and explore it responsibly.

I was having major Sex and The City flashbacks when I was looking through products because I found the body wand which really looks like the “neck massager” Samantha was trying to return in one of the episodes. That’s when I realized I was in the right place.

Sex shops shouldn’t be scary and once you’ve stepped in you certainly won’t think so either. So if you’re looking for “self love” products aka dildos, vibrators, pocket pussies, etc. or looking to spice up your love life with some whips and chains, you should walk in with confidence and own up to your freakiness.

So embrace your sexuality and walk in and find what you need.
