Survival Guide to Bar Hopping

Bar hopping is an art. Really. Bar hopping doesn’t just include you and your friends going to multiples bars. No, you need to know what bars are the best and what drink prices match your budget. It’s honestly something that requires trial and error and you’re in luck! I’ve practically tried every bar in this area (blame my borderline alcoholism and my thirst for adventure.)

So to properly bar hop you need a few things…

F R I E N D S

This is obvi. I’m a social drinker so going out for drinks requires some friends. If you’re drinking alone people might think you have a problem so bring your friends along to go with your denial. Make sure these are the fun friends, not the friends that get into bar fights mid-adventure.

M O N E Y

No matter how many happy hours you attend or drink specials you see, money will always pile up if you’re drinking to have a good time. So make sure you have enough money depending on your drinking style. If you know twenty bucks isn’t sufficient to start the night, make sure you’re prepared. No one likes that friend who is constantly asking if someone can get them a round.

*BORRACHX TIP: Bring both cash and card for covers, cash only bars and tips.

DRINK SPECIALS & HAPPY HOUR SCHEDULES

Happy hour times vary depending on which bar you’re going to. Find out their schedules and map out your bar hopping that way. I like to hit the cheap bars first because it allows me to get tipsy on a small budget while I get ready for better bars with more expensive drinks; leaving me with more money at the end of the night.

WEAR A VERSATILE OUTFIT

If your adventure includes clubs and bars you might want to wear something that is fitting for both settings. I usually go for some cute jeans, a nice top, and comfortable but cute heels or booties.

DRINK LOTS OF WATER

WATER IS A MUST! Not just when you’re bar hopping but anytime you’re drinking, water should be a part of those drinks. It hydrates you to help with the next day hangover and allows you to slow down between drinks.

ID ON DECK

Everyone hates that person who holds up the line because they can’t find their ID through their purse. Opt for a small wallet to carry around to always have your ID on hand. Not every bouncer or bartender will take your word for it if you can’t find it.

DESIGNATED DRIVER

Drinking and getting shit faced is all fun and games until you realize you can’t sleep there. Make sure you have a designated driver or arrange to get a Lyft back home. When you’re drinking please be responsible and make arrangements to get home safely.

Bar hopping is fun and I love to do it pretty frequently. These are the tricks I use to make sure I get the biggest bang for my buck and the most fun while still being responsible. What are some tips or tricks you’d like to share?
